Witchdome's not totally auto-pilot all the time. Not when Troy was running shows on time and collecting money like it was a door. Often times, John or I will rustle a slacking band up and go "Are you guys ever gonna play?...We gotta work tomorrow" when the pace is just intolerable. But certainly, it's more finesse that gruff in terms of stage and crowd management. But at its worst, they had that one week where the cops showed up a couple times....mostly due to running too late and people outside and one crazy neighbor.
Liz did her best last Wednesday, but it was different than shushing people at her own house where people know "This is Liz's house." Most Funcastle shows run really well, and their one neighbor problem is little more different than other show-houses.
Every show does need someone to be the DIYcop, though....it is true. The objective is never to whippy-chip the fun or the party vibe or anyone's shroom high. The objective is to keep the real cops at bay, keep shows sustainable, and to keep my hands free of someone else's piss.
:sometimes you need a tsk tsk taskforce, or something of the like. if you look at the history of show spaces in the area, which ones lasted(loft) or continue to last(that house in davis) its because someone(s.s., ele) is there to keep shit under control..although there do seem to be exceptions..witch dome seems to be totally self-sufficent and the shows seem to run themselves on auto-pilot which is pretty cool.
