I see what your getting at. Yeah, the whole death penalty issue is very interesting. At times I find myself against it, but then I think of the times I wished death to certain people who I felt needed to die.
What I found fascinating about Ben's video is that the person about to be executed can have the executioner mediate with the family on his behalf. If the family wants to forgive him, then they call the whole thing off. Here in America, once you've been tried and found guilty, you're fucked.
Richard Pryor had this piece about how he would handle justice, that's pretty right on.
judge: Looks like we got you here for attempted murder. Why did try to kill this man?
defendant: Your honor, this motherfucker keeps fucking with me, made me want to kill his ass.
judge to plaintiff: You made this man want to kill you.......... THIRTY YEARS!! (slam)
:my angle was more along the lines of "death penalty = wrong", but i'd agree that once you commit to the deed the level of barbarism involved shouldn't make much of a difference to the accused, provided it's "humane," which it seemed to be.
:
:but as far as everyone else is concerned, i wonder if the states' death penalty still be around if we got spattered with blood instead of sitting behind glass waiting for the dude to gently lose consciousness? or would we want it more? or am i just assuming everyone's as timid as i am- i can't even watch most horror movies so i'm probably in the minority.
:
:i know this is the wrong place to be serious, but i've always found the death penalty interesting.
:
:and i do think cutting off people's legs and hands (hands = stealing, but i wonder what warrants getting your leg chopped off?!?) is fucked no matter what. my dad thinks it's the best law ever.

::Just because they do things differently than us, doesn't mean it's wrong. And yes, humans do have a long way to go. We're the only species that contaminates it's own food & water supply in the name of "progress".
