I made three different fliers for this show. One of them said Negro Pussy (1) on it, one just said KGP on it, and another said Negro Pussy (2) but with KGP over it, although, if you know what you're looking at, you can still tell what it says underneath. The one that said Negro Pussy (3) actually looks inflammatory regardless of the band name. It was one that I hoped would get a smile from Martin.
I made three fliers because there's one flier I intend for complete strangers, and there's the others which are intended for friends.
If you know what's in the hearts of the band members of Negro Pussy (4), then you know that there is no racism or misogyny, and thus, you can look at the name as a sorta synonym for "black cat." But not everyone knows the members of the band, and it is obvious to any reasonable person why the band name may push buttons and alarm people. And you have to respect that as a fact. So, because we do open our home to complete strangers and want them to feel welcome to have a good time, I choose to make it K.G.P. for some, and Negro Pussy (5) for others.
(Now I've said the name five times, Martin...so will you please retract the false statement about me being a Christian Republican?)
Now it's too late for any strangers reading this here...the cover's blown, and you know the band's name. Can you just trust us that the band means nothing by it other than shock value? And can you let yourselves have fun when you discover that the band does rock and is very entertaining?
If not, you can choose to arrive late. Negro Pussy opens the show at 6:30 sharp and will finish by 7:00. So come at 7:00. If you boycott this show entirely, I will be bummed because that's not fair to the other three bands or the DAM House leaseholders who put so much work into making each event here very special with all the cleaning and moving and cooking and serving which takes time and costs a lot of money, but is so worth it when everyone has a great time enjoying rad DIY music.
