Kevin your post in the beginning was pretty nice thanks but the rest sounds like typical bullshit. From your post I do see that I maybe should have left that sentence out about "scene" shit but it seems that I was right about the little scene kids attacking and defending their bullcrap. I didn't mean to come off attacking the people at the venue because they obviously deserve credit for putting these shows on and it seems they are very serious about it. That's what I want. I want to meet serious people who love what they do. What I want is for the Funcastle to succeed and maybe somehow I can help. But some bitches on this board who can't answer my question rather be assholes and post asshole responses to my post.
What you are assuming from reading my post I could be seen as scene-y. To answer: No I don't expect anyone to know the bands ahead of time, it would be good for the bands, but I don't give a shit. I'm just saying through example with these bands why I'm very impressed with Funcastle. It's the scene kids that ruin the fun of a venue. They look down on you for not having the right clothes from Urban Outfitters and they obviously get mad when someone doesn't want to be apart of "their scene" and denounces. This fucking shit needs to stop with "Here people don't pretend to like bands" (not an exact quote). I don't fucking want you to pretend to like anyone, dipshits. It would be nice if the audience was a collective of people just wanting to support a local venue and independent music, but it's not right now.
How is my comment condemning people talking about fashion at this particular house a little ironic? What's ironic about? Nothing. Is it nothing is ironic about it. Or are you saying me not liking stuck up people is like stuck up people discussing fashion? Because that makes a lot of sense.
I wasn't saying me being a "no budget film marker" makes a difference how my opinion is perceived, fucker. I was trying to relate that I'm doing my thing and I appreciate them doing their thing. Independence. If you read the very last line you would have seen that.
And I guess you're being funny or sarcastic when saying "Death Sentence: Panda and White Mice are not "noise," they are pop bands." Animal Collective is a noise-pop band, but not these guys. So very funny or stupid or whatever.
But thanks for not answering anything and thanks (really) for your first sentence of your post.
:there is a skeptical attitude on this board, don't take it so personal.
:however, it's pretty weird to post here and say something like "i hope the people booking these shows are in it for the music and not just the scene." a house full of musicians who opens their personal home to tons of strangers in order to give under-the-radar music a democratic venue to make shit happen and then has to deal with parties and cleaning up after them is dedicated beyond making sure they are perceived as cool.
:you can complain about people just being there to hang out, sure, but if they came to check out the show out of curiosity and didn't care for the band, why should they sit through it and pretend, like Jason said - wouldn't that be pretentious? or are you saying anyone who is there should only be there because they already know who the band is and what to expect in which case you would be calling for a "scenesters only" club?

:Just to clear a couple things up:
:Your comment condemning people talking about fashion at this particular house is a little ironic.
:No, being a "no budget film marker" doesn't make a difference how your opinion is perceived.
:Death Sentence: Panda and White Mice are not "noise," they are pop bands.
:
:I don't live at funcastle so this is not your concrete answer, but i didn't like your post and i could at least answer to some of it.

::First off I guess I shouldn't have upset the scene kids here on the board by even mentioning it at all in my post. All I was saying was that it's pretty fake to go to someone's home where bands are trying to raise money and give a good show and instead smoke cigarettes, oh so cool, and talk about fashion. Sorry for supporting what people here try to say is an independent music scene. Sorry for that. Secondly it's fucking sad how pathetically negative these first two responses were. Wow way to support your "scene" and independent bands.
::
:::People were probably not into the bands if they were outside. People here do what they want. If they are not interested in a band they don't stand there and pretend to be into it.

::::::I'm from Modesto and I went to Sacramento to watch Death Sentence: Panda! at the "Funcastle" at 2309 L St. And now I see that White Mice are coming to the same venue on April 1. These are bands, especially White Mice that I either had no luck with time to go see them in San Fran or I thought I would probably not see them almost ever. Now this place is bringing in some kick ass noise bands and I just want to know who runs it? Will there be a website? Myspace? whatever. There needs to be one. I just hope the people in charge are in it for the music and not just the scene. There were more people outside being "scene-y" then there were inside watching the bands. Anyways sorry I just hope more bands like them come in to play. I'm an independent no budget film marker (if that makes a difference), I love this type of music and I'm becoming a big fan of Funcastle. Just want to make and keep contact with anyone in charge. I'm trying to get serious with my art and with art that I appreciate.
