i realize a lot of other sites/magazines/etc copy and paste show info from here to other places, and that's dandy. this is a free site of unsupervised information exchange, and that's exactly the point.
but- some discretion should be used when republishing private house parties (more importantly the address of these houses), especially if it's going to end up in a widely distributed weekly or something with an ambiguous audience. it's dangerous. i know these listings are alongside those at legitimate "clubs", but keep in mind that these are essentially illegal shows that should remain on the hush.
i'm sure the people who write these are mostly just trying to help, but it can completely backfire. redrum in providence (who NEVER published their address) was shut down a few months ago due to their address finally being published in the local paper for a large/popular show and basically the cops (on their own accord or called in by a "competing" venue) preemptively screwed them solid. additionally, a few weeks ago some dummy in seattle published
THIS, whose title alone is mindblowingly irresponsible. in addition to The Kids these articles ARE read by neighbors, cops, and various other buttholes.
that said, if you're posting your own house shows, you might consider giving a second thought to including the address because this kind of thing is still going to happen and eventually the attention will be too much. even if it never leaves this site- there are 200+ unique IPs a day reading this and who knows who these people are. and at this point with all the other avenues on the internet it shouldn't be too hard to ask someone for an address, see it on a handbill, or creatively search for it, so in 2007 i question the necessity to begin with.
in the end it's none of my business and i may be overreacting, but this sort of thing DOES occur and i worry about it happening any of the small handful of people putting their homes and wallets on the line for your entertainment.
