KDVS has taken over Tuesday nights at the G Street Pub in Davis!
Every Tuesday night is "KDVS Night at the Pub," where you'll hear
KDVS deejays spinning music and see bands hand-picked by folks at the
station. We've got a great bill lined up for Tuesday, August 9, and
we hope you'll join us and have fun.
Tuesday, August 9, @ G Street Pub
228 G Street, Davis
The Bananas
Modern Machines (Milwaukee)
Boss the Big Bit (Davis)
The Trashies (Seattle)
+ KDVS deejays spinning music all night
9 p.m., $3, 21+, "KDVS Night at the Pub"
Now, the rambling:
The Bananas. I love them. You should too. 'Nuff said.
Modern Machines are a fabulous poppy punk band from Milwaukee.
They've got a melodic, guitar-driven sound that is reminiscent of the
first couple Replacements records (they've also drawn comparisons to
Husker Du). Emotive but not "emo," poppy but clearly not "pop-punk,"
Modern Machines write poignant songs you want to wrap your arms
around and sing along to on first listen, not unlike the Bananas, and
they deliver them live with such verve that it's virtually impossible
not to enjoy their performances.

Boss the Big Bit is a Davis band comprised of three KDVS deejays and
former members of the Zim-Zims and Gnartoon. These guys formed
shortly after the demise of Gnartoon, a band that fused uptempo rock
with electronics and, more often than not, came out on top. Boss the
Big Bit is mining similar musical ground as Gnartoon, although the
delivery is notably more refined, which is the benefit of time.
Right now, I can't really think of anybody to compare them to, which
might actually work to their advantage if you've never heard them
before, but I do think they'll segue quite nicely into Modern
Machines, if that helps.

Seattle's the Trashies were added to this show after Scott Miller
received a note from the band about their West Coast tour. Like
every band that wants to play in the area, the Trashies are HUGE
Bananas fans (their roadie sports a Bananas tattoo). Thankfully,
their music suggests they're worth seeing live! Though a few of
these guys date back to the heyday of Mutant Pop Records (the
Somethingtons, to be specific), the Trashies aren't channeling the
spirit of Screeching Weasel or the Queers. They're actually closer
to the mutant punk-pop of the Spits, with dumbed-down lyrics and
music that's not far behind. They should be really fun live.

The cover for this show is only $3; all money collected goes to the
bands. The music will start at 9:45 p.m. sharp, so please don't be
late. And beer is cheap, by the way.
Please tell your friends and make arrangements for caravans from
Sacramento, if necessary. This will be a great show and everybody is
going to have a marvelous time.
See you there!!!
