WOODEN SHJIPS (san francisco, holy mountain/subpop)
NOTHING PEOPLE (orland, ss records)
ART LESSING & FLOWER VATO

10PM...FOOLS FOUNDATION...$5/7...ALL AGES

this slammer is the product of roughly eight months of correspondance and gentle prodding, but i am happy to say we can finally put some faces to the paint peelers known collectively as WOODEN SHJIPS. for the better part of 2006, the SHJIPS remained something of an enigma: their self-released 10-inch and 7-inch records received unanimous accolades across the blogosphere, but strangely there was no record of the band ever playing a show. no trail of "ex-members", just a website (a real website, how old timey!) and these records, which apparently the band forged in a volcano and was just giving away for free. the authenticity that wafted off these records and the bands' approach in general is the stuff that keeps the hardcore nerds strutting with a boner popping out of their sweatpants, but that ain't to say that even the most casual dweeb ain't going to completely flip over these guys. should appeal to fans of hawkwind, pink fairies, or modern day screamers like residual echos, comets on fire, monoshock, etc. if you're not hep to the majesty of the SHJIPS' lordy groove yet, here's your chance:

also on deck is NOTHING PEOPLE...another band that literally came out of nowhere (orland?), dropped a great 7-inch and in the months since the band's brand of echo-saturated wastebin cyberpunk has been toasted from coast to coast. i think the twinkeyz are an easy reference point to this band's sound, and i even hear stains of lou reed and sonic youth on their stuff. maybe see what you think here:

ART LESSING & FLOWER VATO continue to hold position within the top shelf of local deep trippers. i'm continually impressed with the ambitious nature of the dudes' approach: the homemade instruments, the sheer volume and breadth of song output, the play anywhere anytime attitude, and the totally sincere demeanor of the dudes involved. the groups' homemade releases consistently end up in the kdvs top 30, you can check some of their stuff here:

see you there, ok?
