I had so much fun making this flier, I forgot to say that this awesome show’s at
Fools Foundation, 19th @ K Streets in Sacramento. (I also only found out just now that it's V-I-S V-I-
V-A. I got bad info from Bulbs...sorry!)

sharp…We mean it! You know were not always so keen on more than three bands on a bill, but when they’re all as splendid as these bands, who blend and contrast in the most complimentary ways, we must find a way. And that means (a) start on time, and (b) tight stage management bouncing between two staging locations.
ANTLERS 11:50
VIS VIVA 11:25
MODERNSTATE 10:55
BULBS 10:30
MINIVAN 10:00

If you need to know a lit’l more about these bands, lemme tell you!
Antlers are a Davis local fave even though some members have moved to Oakland. Since they have played several shows recently, they have set their minds on doing a completely different kinda set, so if you’ve seen ’em play all their songs, come enjoy this Kraut-flavored psych-rock band for the first time all over again. Their “Live†CD from 2006 was a good one. If you didn’t get it, you’re missing one of the best local debut albums of the decade. Recommended for the Residual Echoes fan in you.
Vis Viva is a new side vehicle of the awesome paranoia-inducer Amy of Oaxacan, another Davis ex-pat now making stunning sounds in Oakland. In Vis Viva, Amy teams up as a duo with
Joshua Churchill of T/R, “a local cross-disciplinary artist whose experimental sound performances, installations, and recordings fuse live processing and manipulation of found/altered electronics and field recordings with light and space to create an immersive sonic environment.â€
Modernstate is primarily a solo studio project of Sam Schauer, best known to Maximum Freedom and KDVS fans as the drummer for the amazing
…Worms from Portland, OR. Modernstate is for fans keen on stark dramatics and brilliantly blended sounds sweeping from indie/folk to post-rock to minimal electronics. I saw him perform with Watery Graves at Holocene in Portland, and it was able to evoke awe and wonder in about 150+ people. This time, his touring band
Gulls, a diversely-inspired and outstanding band in their own right.
Bulbs is our friend Jon, one of the dudes that rides his bike to Maximum Freedom fests all the way from San Francisco, plus William, formerly of
Axolotl. Of all the
really weird bands in the world, this is THEE one that’s likely to win over staunch haters of the weird because it is so spontaneous and fun! They opened a house show in Davis in 2005 for a buncha indie rock fans who previously had never even heard of Bulbs, and many of them commented afterward that Bulbs were a big surprise, and a very positive surprise. It’s rather alien, but effusively posi. You’ll love Bulbs!
Minivan are from Seattle. A new album is due to accompany them on this tour. The lovers of Sebadoh and Mountain Goats and Neutral Milk Hotel and other honest good lo-fi artists may be brought to mind when you hear their “lo-fi warm harmonies and bare bones melodies.â€
