Update on tonight's Ed Wood Film Screening
Posted by Shiny Object on 2006-10-20 10:12:04am

Alrighty! So we got in the copy of the Ed Wood penned "I Woke Up Early the Day I Died" this AM from the producers. It has been a pain for even them to track down any kind of copy of this movie. This is the film that Ed Wood wrote, but never got into production before he died, and Billy Zane made it in 1998. Since then, there's only been a couple of US screenings. And it is the Spanish version. We are checking it out right now. This is mostly a silent film (with music) as Ed Wood didn't write dialogue for it in the original script. There are a few bits that have off-screen narration (so far, only one) and that is DUBBED - not subtitled - in Spanish. Also, it looks like the bulk of any text is in Spanish. It would not appear that this is very important. I, at least, haven't really had a problem following this so far, anyway. We'll still run it tonight, but wanted to let you know.

It is definitely a great chance to see an obscure and for the most part, unseen, film with lots of stars who turn up in it, including Billy Zane in the lead and appearances by Christina Ricci, Nicollette Sheridan, Ron Perlman, Sandra Bernhard, Tippi Hedren, Ann Magnuson, Eartha Kitt, Andrew McCarthy, Bud Cort, Max Perlich, Vampira, Conrad Brooks (an Ed Wood staple!), Karen Black, Summer Phoenix, Tara Reid, John Ritter, Kathy Wood (Ed Wood's wife of many years) and yes, even more!

So we hope to see you tonight - Friday 10/20! That's 7 PM - Fools Foundation - 1025 19th St - 19th & K - in the alley, in the basement. $5.00.
