I've heard grumbles about the lack of house-shows this year, but there's a rad show Saturday night (June 24) at the "KDVS Is My Life House," and it's a guaranteed pleaser for most of us...
Boss the Big Bit
Swimmers
Nothing People
Does the flyer say 7:00? I'll let Melissa post about start time. 1114 Cypress Lane in Davis is the place.
You all know and love the Boss band, the closest thing to a KDVS house-band we've had in a while, and they're billing this as their last show of the summer.
Swimmers are from Portland, OR, and they are so much fun hyper helium-vocalled artpunk. They are like Popular Shapes plus a farfisa organ. Snappy, dancey, singalong songs about Hot Pockets, Houston Rockets, and Spacely's Sprockets. Soriano gave them their first review at the Terminal Boredom, and it was very ruthless. But they are a very fun band that I expect to deliver almost Yahmos-level excitement. You can hear them here... http://www.myspace.com/swimmerspdx http://www.swimmerspdx.com/
This is the kinda band that would've made the Loft go crazy if they played with Karate Party.
Nothing People are from Orland, CA, a small town just south of Red Bluff to the north of us. They played the KDVS Stage at Picnic Day, and their CD was a hit last year with us. They are excellent kinda psych/artpunk in the vein of a buncha obscure bands from the 70's like the Twinkeyz or Debris'. Our beloved Soriano is planning to put out a 7" for them on his S-S label.
Please bring some dollars to donate for Swimmers and Nothing People's gas fund, and they'll have CDs and maybe shirts for sale, too.
I will have some drinks there for you to enjoy...both N/A and alc-styles.
