Are there ever
TOO MANY shows???
I mean, I could understand if so many shows were for trifling boring touring bands that nobody cares about. But between Fools Foundation and Delta of Venus, the shows are almost always very good quality bands and artists.
I was a little disappointed by the Magic Carpathians. They were much better in the late-90's when they came to America, but that's a legendary band from freakin'
Poland...how lucky were we to have that in Davis?
Most of the shows I've been to this year have been awesome.
I think if you're complaining that there's "too many shows," that's just you making an excuse for not showing up to more shows. You want to believe that half these shows suck so that you don't hafta worry about your guilt over missing something completely awesome.
As for shows in people's houses...yeah, it has been tracking off a bit, but I don't think that's such a bad thing. The main reason for this in Davis as least is that so many good shows are getting on at Delta of Venus on the weekends.
Although the funnest house shows are the funnest shows ever, a music community dependent on living rooms and basements for venue spaces is rather tenuous. For the last few years, people have been throwing house shows in Davis because there was no other venue to do those shows. But now there's Delta...not so much need to risk your house getting busted for noise and cleaning up messes.
