The Jyrk Jamboree and The Story Behind The Collective
Jyrk
The Jyrk Jamboree is a unique Tour featuring a
variety of musicians who have all worked with
Collective Jyrk. The Tour represents not just the
musical character of the collective, but a brilliant
cross-section of the West Coast's premier Sound
Seekers, Free Noisers, Third Ear Improvisors, and new
Pioneers of the Re-Emerging Psychedelic Movement. As
good a time as any to tap into what's happening in our
own backyard - a gold mine of turned on and freaked
out sound.
Collective Jyrk was founded in 1999 by Gabriel Mindel
Saloman and Pete Swanson of D Yellow Swans, and
E*Rock, musician, artist, animator, designer, and head
honcho of the Audio Dregs record label. It was
initially conceived as a loose affiliation of
Musicians and Artists who would use the group as a
central focus for their disparate activities. The
Collective has established an online gallery at
, released a variety of limited edition
zines, cds, 7"s LPs, CDRs, and cassettes, and has been
featured in numerous galleries and exhibitions up and
down the western US.
YELLOW SWANS
After nearly half a decade of burning PA systems and
mangling their instruments for the love of noise, the
Yellow Swans have developed a unique style of sonic
sorcery. There is a distinct nod to melody buried
inside, along with an ever present pulse of rythem,
and a playing aproach that is one part basement punk,
one part free jazz exploration, and no small part pure
ecstatic catharsis. The Swans will be tour raw having
just finished a 5 week visit to Australia and New
Zealand, preceeded by a two month trip around the US
opening for Xiu Xiu.
AXOLOTL
Though at times an ensemble, AXOLOTL is more often
than not the deeply dream-like explorations of Karl
Marx Bauer. Using his voice and an aged acoustic
violin sent through a web of electronics, Bauer
creates transcendent drones and melodies that are both
frighteningly beutiful and seductively eerie. He'll be
collaborating with Inca Ore during the Jamboree.
INCA ORE
Inca Ore is the solo work of Eva, singer for Alarmist
and Malibu Falcon, as well as frequent collaborator
with Yellow Swans, Jackie O Motherfucker, and the
Skaters. Using her voice in a variety of shapes and
forms she creates magical cycles of singing, moaning,
and sound poems. Like the spirit of Anette Peacock
visiting the Cabaret Voltaire, echoing through time.
GOD
Featuring Portland's Leif Sundstrom and Bryan Eubanks
who has recently relocated to NYC, GOD is the more
harsh and abrasive side of these often more subtle and
minimal improvisors. Playing a feedback inducing
homestereo and a suitcase full of cracked electronics
and alligator clips respectively, GOD creates deep
drones and membrane piercing sine waves that move
beyond your ears and straight into your central
nervous system.
WORLD
Deeply meditative Free-form psych, as if a commune
worth of transcendentalists crashed their astral plane
into a flying saucer. World features True-Lovers Honey
Owens (Jackie O Motherfucker, Nudge, Valet) and Adam
Forkner (Jackie O Motherfucker, White Rainbow,
VvrrssnN), Portland Oregon's gift to the world of
contemporary Pschedelia.
