11-28-05::::
two shows recommended by me for you to see on monday night:
NUMBERS (san francisco)
MAE SHI (los angeles)
THE POPE (los angeles
8pm at UCD coffeehouse...FREE. this will be over at 10pm which is the time
this next thing starts which is only a few blocks away and also in davis,
obviously:
JAPANTHER (brooklyn)
10pm at delta of venus...all ages...mandatory donation (whatever that
means).
----> ok, here's the details: clearly you can go to both of these things.
the show at the coffeehouse is FREE, parking is not unless you park east of
B street. that's still only like a few blocks to walk, so do that i think.
numbers are my friends, and also a really fun band to see play, in the event
you have been hiding under a rock for the last 5 years or whatever and
haven't heard them here's some links you can visit to download some sweet
mp3's for free:

i met mae shi about a year and a half ago and we became friends retroactive
to 1932. things tend to get a little out of hand when they play live,
usually everyone in the audience winds up playing drums for them before the
end of the last song and getting really sweaty and gross. their music is
the product of squeezing more ideas per song than most bands do into an
entire songbook. i think that it works great except when i forget to take
the ridilin, then it just makes me panic. in addition to playing THE
SCREAMERS in that new GERMS movie some dude is working on in l.a., they have
some mp3 studs you can download onto your ipod from here:
http://www.mae-shi.com
http://www.5rc.com
http://www.strictlyamateurfilms.com
the pope is also from l.a., but i don't know much about them except one dude
was in the manifolds. he also runs the kill shaman record label:
http://www.killshaman.com where you can download some tunes also.
ok, last on my list of things to suggest is going to see japanther after
that first show is over. they're playing some "after hours" thing at delta
of venus starting at 10pm. delta's like a 5-10 minute walk from the
coffeehouse and probably close to where you would park your car anyways.
they are all the way from brooklyn, ny and ian looks kind of like matt damon
and everyone makes fun of him for it. they're a fun band though...sort of
putting pop punk anthems through the load records filter and coming up with
something entirely their own, you can see that here i think if you go to
ian's record label website: http://www.tapesrecords.com. they have some
stuff out on the menlo park label as well, which i think you can look at if
you do the google thing.
