I DO know who owns the place, and they DO have shows because they give a shit. They are both music fans, as well as people fans. They have allowed the local music and art scene to use their space for a couple of years now. Sure...once in awhile it is profitable, but for the most part, they actually lose money. When they do have shows (which is alot more than once in awhile), they more often than not lose money. Alot of people will attend most shows there, but they aren't patronizing the J-Lo itself. They will often times go out of their way to walk to the liquor store for snacks (the J-Lo has food...pretty good shit too) and often times make the trek down to the Starfucks/Jambajunk hub for beverages. It goes beyond just this place. It is a very strip mall minded culture that is so prvelant in Sacto, as well as everywhere else. If we don't begin to support ALL independent businesses, we will continue to have our choices minimalized to McDonald's, Wal-Mart, and Starbucks...all convieniently located under one roof. So.....if ya give if a fuck, and ya wanna make some new friends, probably see some music you may or may not like, and at least go through some rad garage sale shit, come out Saturday and have fun. :or i don't know? is this place on its last legs? are they operating at a loss, and is it manageable? how much money is needed and for what? what's the owner's attitude? providing specifics might go a long way here, especially since this is the 2nd or 3rd time i've read something like this. it would be deceiving if all these charity events just went towards propping up a corpse, or worse yet if there's really no chance of them actually closing. like someone already said, a lot of people could use a benefit show right now.

:that said i sincerely wish this place good luck and hope the show goes well, but again this place is first and foremost a business and i don't know who owns it but will further speculate that they like having shows there because it is profitable to do so and not necessarily because they give a shit (again correct me if i'm wrong). in that case sacramento really is getting lame when its music scene hinges on some store letting them do shows there once in a while.

:::3 of my friends have been laid off so we should do a benefit for them. They all attend shows and play music locally so that makes them worthy.
