Three outstanding bands...
SHEARING PINX (Vancouver, BC, Canada) MENTAL STAGNATION THE FREEBASERS
Shearing Pinx are only one of the most incredible bands on this planet. It may seem like I have 50-100 favorite bands, but this is certainly one of the top three or four. Fans who enjoyed the recent Curse of the Birthmark show or the last time Night Wounds were in town definitely gotta see this. It's kinda like the first Sonic Youth album, but kicked up a few notches in the energy and youthful spirit departments. Even when they improv, they totally nail it and never get boring.....must be 'cos they all play their instruments obsessively everyday for hours, yet never totally go avant without a dose of savant. It's basically where the purest definition of "punk" is today. http://www.myspace.com/shearingpinx http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQIyrD_-IAY
Mental Stagnation are Sacto youngbloods that you've surely seen around, but unless you are their blood relatives, you probably haven't seen them yet. They deserve an audience, dammit! Y'know those gothic-tinged moments of any Septic Death record? That's kinda what this band is like. And occasionally, the sound of a Russian folkdance creeps in. http://www.myspace.com/maomew
The Freebasers are a different permutation of a Chad Stockdale group, and (figuratively speaking) they give off the harshest fumes of this family tree of bands.
No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but please remember that gasoline and van rentals are expensive for touring bands, and I guarantee that compared to a $50 My Bloody Valentine show, this will dazzle you at least twice as much. So, for a $100 entertainment value, please chip in as much as you can or at least $5 for the touring band. This show was supposed to be at Luigi's Fungarden but got moved because the bands sounded "too scary" to the landlord. It would've cost you $5 and extra for beer. Now we will have free beer for you. So there's really no excuse to not pay $5. Unless you just absolutely can't....Hey, hard times...I know. (Well, then...please bring a friend who can chip in a couple extra, eh!)
