I've been home sick the last two days, so I've not really been in the mood for the internet. I feel bad that I've not done the usual hype for this show when I know it might be in the final running for best shows of 2008 when it's all over.

PIERCED ARROWS (Portland)
TH'LOSIN' STREAKS
THE NOWHERES
STANDARD TRIBESMEN
Pierced Arrows is the newest band of Fred and Toody Cole which rose from the ashes of Dead Moon's unexpected December 2006 breakup. They still play old Dead Moon faves, and their new songs sound just as good so far. It's still as much a family affair as Dead Moon was because new drummer Kelly Halliburton is the son of an ex-bandmate from Fred's bands in the 60s and 70s. Most of us probably know Kelly better from his days as the ringleader of Portland's anarcho/HC/crust scene in the 90s. He was in Resist, the Deprived, Defiance, Masskontroll, Detestation and others. The Dead Moon story is such an amazing story of DIY inspiration that it's really one of the greatest stories in rock 'n' roll history. And pushing 60, the Coles are still very intense and impactful performers. You know this if you saw them a few years ago at Primo's Swiss Club.

You all should already know that Th'Losin' Streaks are extremely thrilling and some of the premier mayhem bringers of the raw, wylde rock 'n' roll.
The Nowheres are a new band with Curtis of SLA. MySpace mp3s reveal them to be doing the nuts 'n' bolts un-Anglocentric 70s punk with high-level punchi-/crunchiness and a roiling meanstreak. They do a cover of Freestone's classic "Bummer Bitch" of "Killed by Death" infamy. "Feedback" has a sorta Wipers/Dead Moon/Sado Nation thing going on.

You should also already know that the Standard Tribesmen are of the best young bands from Sacto in a long time, that Julian is what Dwyer calls "a tall drink of water," and if you haven't seen the new lineup that formed in the last few months, then you need to see them again because it's different now. I've said it's like a Gories meets Contortions thing with the saxophone, and I'm still sticking to that. I'd link the MySpace, but the recording there now is too unflattering for such a rad band.
