THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH
Probably the best Thursday for shows in quite awhile with a couple of just great shows --
first off, the pyrate punx are bringing in New York Peace Punk legends, APPLE, along with another great old NY political punk band, NO THANKS. Opening the show are two great local political punk bands -- Isonomy and Dance for Destruction. If you like your punk rock political and appreciate female-fronted bands this 80's NY meets 00's Sac show if for you. It happens at Casa De Chaos which is on 21st between P and Q downtown. Look for the backyard with nice punks. It's all ages and if you show up, please bring at least $3 (more, please) to give to the out-of town bands.
Then, over at the Silk Bar is another great show this one featuring Pierced Arrows featuring 2 members of Dead Moon (plus a member of Resist), the Nowheres, Losin Streaks, and Standard Tribesman. This show will rock in all the right ways. Starts at 8, 18 and over. I think it's $6 or @7 bucks and it's at the Silk, 1011 Del Paso Heights Blvd.
Also that night over at the Fire Escape Bar in Citrus Heights is a grat local show of rousing punk anthems with Drastic Actions, Bastards of Young, and Final Heist. 7431 Madison Ave, 21+, $5.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8TH
Only one show you will need that night and it is for everybody -- the mighty Cobra Skulls -- one of those rare bands that pretty much anybody who loves any kind of punk rock really should love -- is playing with Red Tape, Final Summation, Helper Monkeys, Drastic Actions, and Isonomy. 1 great touring band with 5 great Sacramento bands = 1 great show. It's all ages, so everyone can get in on the fun. Starts at 8:30 at the Orangevale VFW, 9426 Greenback Lane. Costs 8 bucks.
SATURDAY. FEBRUARY 9TH
Saturday's got a whole stack of cool stuff happening all over the area, all throughout the evening and night....
Over in Davis is Gomerstock 2008 which is like Woodstock, but better cuz it's a house show featuring some of the best bands you are gonna hear round these parts -- Warm Streams, uncuT:Hunks, Mayyors, and Oh Sees. This great lineup happens over at the Charred Dog Haus at 5th and G in Davis. Show starts at 7 (really) costs $5 and is open to all ages.
Spicoli hosts his final show over at the Stag in Woodland (506 Main St) with a rocknroll heartattack featuring the Jim Rowdy Show, Faraway Boys, Red Devil Squadron and the Infamous Swanks. Starts at 9, costs 6, only for those over 21.
The groovin' Luna's Cafe downtown hosts a louder than usual show at 9 pm with The Common Men, Butch vs. Femme, and Le Master -- this is gonna be some good post-punk stuff for all ages over on 16th St. between N and O and get a smoothie while you are there. Show costs $6.
The continued attempted Psychobilly takeover of Sacramento happens over at the Boardwalk where the Horrorpots, Pink Spiders and Rocket play an an all ages show that costs around $15.
In the midst of all the Saturday shows are two great art events that you might want to check out:
Over at Cafe Millazzo (48th and J), Paul Imagine is having an art show where he's selling hand-screened prints of some of the best punk show flyers you are ever gonna see. His work is great, he totally supports the scene, his prices are reasonable and you can get cheap (yet quality) pizza and beer while you are there. Amy Greer and Melanie Brown will be showing and selling art as well. It's free to go in and runs from 6-10, so stop in as you head out that night and support this guy.
At the Sol Collective, 2020 Del Paso Blvd, is a very cool event called the "One-off T Shirt show" -- a bunch of local artists have created one of a kind t-shirt designs plus there's gonna be music by Pets, Dusty Brown, Cole Cuchna and DJ Crush Delight. The event runs from 6-11 pm.
Next week there is some good stuff of note as well.
TUESDAY, FEB 12th
At Sac State benefit for victims of the Southern California wildfires featuring a fun mixed up bill with Kepi the Band, No Admission, Righteous Movement, the Live Manikins and Richard March. Starts at 7, all ages, costs $10 (For a good cause and a good night of music) and happens at the CSUS University Ballroom which is in the University Union over at 6000 J St.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH
Tonight is the annual celebration and memorial for Mike Gius a Sacramento original who drummed for all sorts of great bands (Yahmos, Popesmashers, Deep Six to name just a few) and was just a really wonderful guy who unfortunately got run over by a car while he was riding his bike several years ago. This years "Sonic Gius Fest" features Ugly, Armed Forces Radio, Iguanadon, Forms in Flux, and Chicks With Dicks. It happens at the Sol Collective, 2020 Del Paso Blvd, starts at 7 and is all ages. Cost is $5 if you bring a canned food donation, $7 if you don't.
Out at the Orangevale VFW, Disaster Presents their first venture into the all ages waters in Sacramento (so if you want to see more shows like this, I'd suggest you go out and support this show, and the lineup certainly warrants your support....) Union 13, The Henchmen, Dead Ringers, Nation of Idiots and Embrace the Kill. Starts at 8, is all ages, costs 10 and the VFW is at 9346 Greenback Lane if you needed to know.
And there's yet another great show in Orangevale featuring No Admission, Riot on Rosewood, All Names Taken, 5 Days Dirty, and Sons of Thunder. The No Admission and Riot on Rosewood folks are some of the hardest working scene supporting folks you are ever gonna meet and their bands are really good, so go support them. Show starts at 7 pm and is all ages. It's at Club Retro, 6521 hazel ave and costs $8.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH
This is a good night to be over 21 or have a fake ID because there's three great shows tonight and all of them are at bars.
The biggie is the Secretions sponsored "American Punk Fest" happening at the Blue Lamp! Kinda an amazing lineup if punk with some melody gets you jumping around -- Moral Crux from Seattle who have been around for a long time and are a really great unrecognized punk band, The Secretions, Teenage Rehab from Kentucky, the Helper Monkeys, the Coffin Caddies from Florida, Losing All Pride, the Giddy Ups and The Bastards of Young. Pretty great show, eh? It starts at 6 pm over at Alhambra and N in downtonw Sac. and will cost you $10.
Not far away, over at the Distillery at 21st and L, the Hoods will return from tour and play with Vomit, Massacre Time and Nuts and Bolts. Starts at 10, $6.
And since it's the third Saturday of the Month it must be time for "Sabado Satanico" hosted by Buried in Hell over at On the Y (670 Fulton Ave). These shows always feature a great mix of punk, thrash, grind, black metal, death metal and other zaniness. This one's got The New Plague, Laceration Face, Mask of Sanity, LSDA and the pic of the night is Verlaten, which has members of Plutocracy and No Less which means they are gonna be playing some wicked twisted intense shit. DJ Barba Sucia starts spinning the hits at 7:30 and bands go on at 8:30. Costs $6.
So, that takes you through the next week or so, lots more coming up in the near future -- check out myspace.com/sacramentopunkshows for all the details, flyers, some songs, links and more.
