message:	: :<img src=http://a49.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/65/l_1f281bd9bc7d246a75164b6a9553a9d8.jpg> : :<a href=http://myspace.com/savagerepublic>Savage Republic</a> made an artpunk masterpiece back in 1981, and its legacy has helped inspire a scene of Eastern-influenced psychedelic and experimental rock called "post-Asiatic" which includes local bands such as <a href=http://myspace.com/sankazakgascar>San Kazakgascar</a> and <a href=http://myspace.com/artlessing>Art Lessing & the Flower Vato</a>. : :Migrating from punk toward filmesque, <b>Savage Republic</b> made a string of really good to downright <i>great</i> records for the next ten years before calling it quits and splintering into groups such as <b>Scenic</b> and <b>F-Space</b>. As a live band, however, they always maintained palpable punk primalness, and they appeared several times at house-shows in and around Davis...always slaying!! This was the first band I ever saw live, at a pool party behind a farmhouse on the west outskirts of Davis. I will never forget how great it was! : :<b>Savage Republic</b> have always had a cult following around the U.S. and Europe, but in Greece, they actually became a hit sensation when a copy of their rare "O, Adonis" 7-inch somehow made it into the hands of an influential Greek radio DJ. Unbeknownst to SR, their version of this Greek folksong became very popular, and on their [i]Customs[/i] tour, the band was greeted at the boatdocks with fanfare and swept to a packed stadium.
