Shows this weekend and more:
Here's your weekly update from myspace.com/sacramentopunkshows ....
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14TH
"Noise for Toys" at the Distillery with Red Tape, Murderlicious, and Sex Rat, a quality night of metal, punk and rock sponsored by the Sacred City Derby Girls. Bring an unwrapped toy and get in free, or pay $6 at the door. 10 pm, 21 and over, Distillery, 2107 L St.
Cool all ages show in beautiful Lodi with Give 'em Hell, Awaiting the End, and With Grace We Fall. Riot on Rosewood was supposed to play but one of them got hit by a drunk driver -- he's okay, but I don't think will be able to play tonight. It happens at the 180 Teen Center, 17 W. Lockeford St, Lodi, 95240. It's $5, starts at 7, and it's all ages. And, Lodi really isn't all that far from Sacramento. There's a really cheap zoo there too, but I doubt it'll be open.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15TH
There's a whole slew of shows on Saturday ('slew' is a word my mom always used a lot).
If thrash metal be your thing, then you should be at On the Y for Sabado Satanico which happens the third Saturday of every month. This one has a GREAT lineup with Psychosomatic (who I still think are one of the best local bands around), Chromium 6 (from Oakland), Head on Collision (all the way from St. Louis, recently signed to Beer City Records who've released stuff by MDC, DRI, Verbal Abuse and LOTS of other folks), Dominion Fiend (recently reformed and sounding better than ever) and Vomit (who I keep missing for some reason). Plus DJ Barba Sucia will be spinning all your fave punk and metal tunes before and between bands. It's at On the Y, 670 Fulton AVe, only costs $6, is 21 and over and starts at 8.
If post punk be your thing, get your butt out to Woodland to see The Common Men, Butch vs. Femme (back at it) and Peacable Jones at the Stag, 506 Main St., 10 pm, $5, 21+
Oh, but that's not all -- Davis has a decent show at the G St Pub with Inferno of Joy, Badstrips, and Shockbox. That one is also 21 and over and costs $5.
If all ages is what you need, once again your life is saved by the Java Lounge downtown near 16th and Broadway, where the Boats are playing with the Pets and Life as a Ghost. 8 pm, 5 bucks. Support the Java Lounge, they are gonna get punk as fuck in January.
Over at the Distillery, Mike Hood is doing a new thing that sounds quite cool where he will be DJing a crazy mix of punk, rock, metal, hip hop and lots more and bands will be playing. This month it is the mighty Hoods and Blackout. It's the last show for the Hoods old bassist. That one is 21 and over, starts at 10 and is only $5.
Also, both Friday and Saturday, Movies on A Big Screen is showing "Media Matters" a short political film festival. Both nights shows start at 7 pm and show at the ILWU Hall at 4th and F in WEST Sacramento, all ages $5. They are also doing $6 late night movies at 10 pm with separate admission in the same location -- Friday it's Rocky Horror and Saturday is "The Room." I think if you plan on going out on Friday or Saturday you should try to catch a 7 o clock movie before whatever gig you go to and support independent films in Sacramento. But hey, that's just my opinion.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16th
There's only one place to be and that is the Silk Bar for the Crime matinee show. This will be a great "old farts and upstarts" show featuring both youthful and aging musicians tearing it up all day long. The whole thing is headlined by the reformed CRIME (featured in this week's News and Review), plus Lou Lou and the Guitarfish (kids of Crime), the mighty Bananas, teen sensations No Admission, the genius Four Eyes, Isonomy, uncuT:Hunks, the Nowheres, and the Disgusteens. 9 bands in all. This is an EARLY MATINEE show. Doors open at noon, music starts at 1 and the whole thing must end by 8 pm. So, get there early. It's the first ALL AGES show at the Silk, so everyone is welcome -- only $6 for 21 and over, $8 for under 21. The Silk is at 1011 Del Paso Blvd near the Globe Light Rail station (yes, you can take Light Rail to and from this show). This monumental Sacramento punk rock event is brought to you by the good folks at Sacramento Pyrate Punx and Timeless Tattoo. Come early, there'll be cookies. Be there.
Couple other things right around the corner....
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19th
Buried in Hell brings another great show to On the Y -- this one with Crotch on Fire (wild twisted jazzed out grind from Texas), Make Your Own Maps (more wild twisted jazzy stuff this one a lot more crazy rockin DC inspired), Self Inflicted (raging thrash from the Bay Area), plus local Planetary Ruins. 8 pm, 21 and over, $6, 670 Fulton Ave. Support hard hitting loud wild twisty jazzy punk and grind from Texas or you will find that loud wild twisty jazzy punk and grind from Texas will no longer be offered to you in such a tasty manner.
And if you are looking for something a little quieter head on over to True Love Coffeehouse and celebrate the return of their all ages shows (welcome back!) with a night of punk inspired folk featuring Kevin Seconds, Kepi Ghoulie and the folk-punk of Andrew Jackson Jihad, a band with a great name who have released stuff on a couple of great labels -- Plan It X and Asian Man. True Love is at 2315 K St, downtown. Show is all ages, $6, and starts at 8 pm.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20th
Don't know for sure if this is happening cuz rumor is Club Retro got visited by the Fire Marshall (curses, Great White), so I would call or something first to make sure but a great show is planned with Portland's Autistic Youth (thinking about the Observers would put you pretty close to the mark), Garagezilla (Kepi's got something to do with this), The Boats, Final Summation, and Isonomy -- a great all ages punk show, hope it happens. $10, 7 pm at 6521 Hazel Ave.
Looking ahead to right after Christmas -- a few more great shows to close out the year....
December 28th -- Punk Rock Holocaust at On the Y
December 29th -- GG Elvis and the TCP Band (Punk Elvis Tribute) at the Distillery
December 29th -- End of the Year Party at the Stag
December 31st -- $5 New Years Show with the Secretions, Final Summation, and Captain 9's at the Distillery
