I was in the middle of typing up a big hype email to get you all interested in coming to see Shearing Pinx, Mutators, and Burn Ribbon at the Turtle House on Thursday night, but just before I hit "send," I was told by the Turtle House that the show was being cancelled to provide quiet study-time for a downstairs tenant.
Please, if you know of anywhere this show can happen on 48 hours notice in Davis or Sacto, let me know.
Shearing Pinx are perhaps the best band in recent years to do improv within a rock band context. Their composed moments have the brimming intensity of HC, but ride the arty angles of dual intertwining guitars a'la the young Sonic Youth and a very fresh take of the delayed vocal sound. This is one of my utmost top four or five favorite bands to see live. Mutators impressed many when they opened up for A Frames at the Charred Doghouse last August. They have the most assaultive female vocalist, perhaps EVER. Burn Ribbon is a local dude named Daniel who has a small array of toys and homemade electronics which he shapes into rhythmic songlike structures....really good!
