Been away for a week or so, only to return to a weekend of great punk shows in the Sacramento area.
myspace.com/sacramentopunkshows has lots more info and over 20 new or updated shows, so come on over and take a look.
For now, here's a stack of punk rock entertainment options just for you for this coming weekend....
FRIDAY, NOV. 16TH
Starting out on Friday, there's a couple of great early shows, an early movie, and then the mighty Channel 3 plays the Distillery late. It would be feasible for a well-organized individual to see do at least two cool things that night. Here's the scoop:
At 6:00 at the downtown Sacramento skatepark there's a free all ages show with The Disgusteens, Riot on Rosewood, Isonomy, and Remember Scooter. To get to the skatepark go to 28th and B Streets and then head up 28th over the little hill, follow the road into the park until it dead ends at the big warehouse skateparky thing by the river. This is a great chance to support some local bands AND did I mention it's FREE and ALL AGES.
If you want to get your ass kicked (in a musical sense) and go to Davis, there is a totally harsh thrash show happening at the Turtle House with Brutal Death, Fragile X, Shanghai Surprise, Follow Blindly, Migraine, and Skullstomp, plus some things I've seen say Warkrime is playing, other things don't mention them but this is a great show regardless This one is all ages, starts at 7., and is supposedly free but I'd bring some $$$ cuz there's bands traveling from the Bay Area. 217 2nd St., Davis, 95616.
You could also head over to west sac for a great documentary movie about a guy who did all these crazy over the edge performances and released a mind-boggling album in the late 70's and then disappeared for a long time only to show up a couple decades later working at a porn store. It's called, "You Think You Really Knew Me: The Gary Wilson Story. It's put on by Movies on a Big Screen is all ages and only $5, you can find it at the ILWU Hall, 600 4th St., in WEST Sacramento.
Then, later that night all people of sound mind who are 21 and over will surely converge on the Distillery at 2107 L St., to see the mighty Channel 3 starting at 10 PM. For those not paying attention, CH 3 released some of the greatest catchiest socal punk of the early 80's, turned into an embarrasing rock band like so many others, kind of disappeared for a number of years, and then returned a couple of years ago writing really great songs again. Definitely a great band to see! Also playing is a stack of Stockton area bands, including a couple bands playing reunion shows by 3 AM Mechanic an the Nice Tries, as well as the high powered rockin Lab Disaster.
SATURDAY, NOV. 17TH
Saturday provides all lovers of the metal -- be it thrash, grind, or crust -- with a real dilemma- which show to go to?
Over at the Orangevale VFW is an ALL AGES thrashmetal fest with thrash maniacs Psychosomatic, Hatchet from the Bay Area, Fog of War from Benicia, as well as local thrashers Devastator and Virulent Death. If you like some thrash in your metal, this show cannot be beat. 9346 Greenback Lane, 8 bucks, 8 o'clock. Notice how many times I wrote "thrash" in this paragraph. Impressive, eh?
And then the evil fates of the universe are providing another great show over at On the Y (this one's 21 and over). It's the third Saturday of the month so it must be time for "Sabado Satanico" where the good folks at Buried in Hell provide you with a night of metal, grind, crust, gore, punk and what else sticks to the wall when they throw your bowels up against it. Expect to see Trinity Test, Pisshitter, Planetary Ruins, Laceration Face, and Killgasm making a whole lot of noise. 670 Fulton Ave., $7, 8 pm.
And, if for some reason, metal ain't your thing there's an impressive rockabilly show over at the Blue Lamp downtown with the Go-Getters from Sweden, The Swanks from Sacramento, and local surf mavens, the Phantom Jets, 1400 Alhambra Blvd, 8 pm,21 and over, $12.
Or you could head over to Stockton to catch DI with most of the bands that played with CH 3 the night before at Stockton's Empire Theater.
SUNDAY, NOV 18TH
On Sunday, there's a great all ages punk show happening over at the Orangevale VFW with the Roustabouts, All Teeth, Vanguard (from Seattle) and Plead the Fifth, 9346 Greenback Lane, 95662, 8 bucks, 8 o'clock, all ages. This ones got a nice mix of hardcore, street punk, straightedge and more, so it's pretty obvious where you want to be!
Oh so much more around the corner, but you'll just have to wait. But. if you have delayed gratification issues, just go over to myspace.com/sacramentopunkshows. A lot of it's there -- and if it's not, could you please let me know.
Take care
Below are a few flyers and one of them is really big (or maybe just two of them are really small)
