Great Stack of Punk Shows and Stuff this week (10-31-11-6/07), including:
++Enough grind that Sacramento could lay claim to it's own mini-Grind Fest
++A Saturday (Nov. 3) with tons of stuff happening from noon till beyond midnight
++A fantastic show coming up on Sunday that you may not know about, but soon will (if you continue reading)...
Here's some details:
Starting with Wednesday, October 31st (that's Halloween in case you forgot)
Rebels Advocate, the Nowheres at a Halloween Party/House Show at Off the Grid, 3950.2nd Ave, Sacramento 95817. Rumors abound about this little gathering, such as that there will be a BBQ before the bands play, that there's gonna be homebrew, that Rebels Advocate are going to shave all their dreads for Halloween and play an entire set of early 80's skinhead anthems (I think that last rumor may not be true). Anyway, Rebels Advocate is just great technical grinding punk metal and the Nowheres (who I haven't actually seen) are rumored to be a band that MUST be seen with a crazy live show. Bring donations for food and music. It's all ages and that's good.
Next night, November 1st is a Buried in Hell show at will keep you in the Halloween Spirit:
Splatterhouse +Gravehill +Kuru + Times of Desperation at the mighty Silk, 1011 Del Paso Blvd, 8 pm, $6. 18+. You've got your goregrind, your weedgrind, your death metal, your black metal, what more could you want?
And then the Sacramento mini-grind fest (I think it needs a better name, howzabout Gargantuan Gods of Grind Fest?) returns to Off the Grid on Friday, November 2nd for the return of Godstomper (!?!?!?), with Planetary Ruins, Hashgrinder and more. 7pm ,four bucks, put on by the Destroyer Crew and all ages.
Grind takes a vacation on Saturday, November 3rd, but don't worry there is still PLENTY to do
Starting at noon is the Gearheard Records Grand Opening up in Woodland -- there's gonna be music from around 12:30-3:00 by the Secretions, Hellbound Glory and the Little Medusas (with Kepi of the Groovie Ghoulies), a raffle (get tickets by bringing canned food to donate to the Yolo Food Bank, 2 cans=1 ticket -- 40 cans=20tickets), food, drink, giveaways and lots of sale items in the store. It's free and all ages -- so come and check it out! The Gearhead party is a 39 5th St. Suite C, Woodland, 95695, it starts at noon and runs till 7 p.m.
Then there's two shows in Sacramento that start early (6-6:30) and are both ALL AGES:
Citizen Fish, MDC, Monster Squad and Dance for Destruction at the Empire, 1417 R St., downtown Sacramento -- this will be a great show
AND
Danny Secretions B-Day Party Benefit (for Jay Onyskin!) at Club Retro featuring a bunch of punk bands covering folks like the Descendents, Ramones, Clash, Sex Pistols, Operation Ivy and a stage of new young Sacto punk bands like Disgusteens, Isonomy, S.T.D., No Admission, and Flower Violence strutting their stuff -- this will also be a great show and benefits a great cause.
Only you can decide where you will be at 6 o'clock on Saturday night.
And, if it's 10 pm on Saturday and you are still looking for stuff to do, it's back to Woodland (or maybe you never left) where the Stag is featuring Turdus Musicus from Norway, along with the Beerlords and Hangface, 501 Main Street, 21 and over.
Surely after all that, you will wake up Sunday, November 4th wanting nothing more than to go to a simply wonderful thrash grind dbeat crust show! And, as luck would have it, once again Buried in Hell provides. Sunday night, On the Y, 670 Fulton Ave.,21+, you can see Dissystema (from Philly, on Despotic and Putrid Filth Conspiracy -- these folks rip) and In Haste (From Seattle -- former Shitlist -- these folks will rip your face off) + Laceration Face (from Auburn -- these guys will cut your face up, so it's good they are playing before In Haste proceeds to tear your face off) + a DJ playing metal and punk all night and probably one more band. Go see this show. Trust me. It's a very good 'un.
And, if you still haven't had enough and are craving just a little more noise, head over to the Java Lounge, 2416 16th St, Sac, 95818 on Tuesday, Nov 6th for Z Deth's final show along with Wartotle, Masoleum, and a bunch of other stuff. It's all ages, it's free and it's going to be a night of whacked out, noisy, fast, loud, weirdness starting at around 7 p.m.
And that brings you to the end of this week. There's so much other great stuff coming up -- The Scarred, The Mentors, 108, Jay Reatard, CH 3 and lots more! But that's all in the weeks to come so you won't read about it right here, right now.
